Hello, my name is Kyle Morford and I am a maker. I run Messy Maker, Co., a growing art, furniture and media company focused on upcycled, reclaimed and restored materials. I have over 17 years of experience in designing, fabricating, and bringing to life robots, sculptures, furniture, and custom client work. I work with many different types of materials such as wood, metal, stone, plastic, and electronics. All the designs and materials are inspired by what I find either in the trash, alleys, dumpsters, or nature. What makes Messy Maker, Co. unique from typical furniture makers and creators is my strict devotion to using second hand materials, giving a new life to old things.
Messy Maker, Co. is also a learning classroom, a community space for open dialogue, connection, and sharing creative passions and ideas. The creative community built in and around Messy Maker, Co. foster creative expression through art and making, fixing, reusing, and upcycling. Courses are run at the main workshop or in the field. Students learn how to pick the best materials to suit their creative or project needs. Once collected, students will use the workshop space to create their upcycled objects. By having an open space for community dialogues built around creative expression will give community members a safe space to express their emotions in physical ways while hopefully being able to share verbally afterwards. These dialogues will target many dynamic populations such as refugees, vulnerable groups, and youth.
